Two R34's and R32 Seized in California : Kaizo Drama Increases : UPDATE

The Kaizo Story so far. Summary of Blog posts October 3,2009

UPDATE . Two R34's and an R32 were seized today. My information says that they are not done seizing cars. If you have a car, I would be on the look out.
I was just informed that a Kaizo R34, an individual owners vehicle was seized this morning by ICE agents. The agents in full Kevlar served a seizure warrant to an owner in the LA area. I know the owner and the car. Again, they came to the owners residence, and seized the car from there. Details are sketchy right now, but as far as we know this is the first "owner" vehicle seized. Still no charges against Kaizo, but it seems like the government is seizing cars. The car in California was an SB100 car, so this could be one of the focuses.
SB100 is a specialty constructed vehicle exemption in California. It allows for up to 500 cars per year to be registered with no smog checks if the car is accepted as a 1960 or does not resemble any other vehicle.
Per California Vehicle Code §4750.1, the first 500 program applicants in each calendar year may choose whether the inspection is based on the model-year of the engine used in the vehicle or the vehicle model-year. If the engine or the vehicle does not sufficiently resemble one previously manufactured, the referee will assign 1960 as the model-year.
Its a good program for specialty vehicles. Cars that are driven very little, and mostly just used to go to shows.
580. A "specially constructed vehicle" is a vehicle which is built for private use, not for resale, and is not constructed by a licensed manufacturer or remanufacturer. A specially constructed vehicle may be built from (1) a kit; (2) new or used, or a combination of new and used, parts; or (3) a vehicle reported for dismantling, as required by Section 5500 or 11520, which, when reconstructed, does not resemble the original make of the vehicle dismantled. A specially constructed vehicle is not a vehicle which has been repaired or restored to its original design by replacing parts.
#1 SPCV can be a kit
#2 SPCV can be new or used parts (aka does not need to be a "kit")
#3 SPCV can be a vehicle reported for dismantling that does not resemble original car.
A SPCV can be any one of these three things. It does not need to meet all 3 requirements.
The last line is ambiguous and open to legal interpretation.

On another note, we heard that Ivy Wang is no longer the DA in charge of this case. We will be on the lookout for more information on seizures today.

Brillance EV Concept

Chinese automaker Brilliance is showing off a new concept electric car that's currently on display at the Shanghai Motor Show. A large battery pack using lithium ion technology is reportedly capable of providing a range of around 93 miles (150 kilometers). The Chinese automaker claims that this battery can be hooked to a 220V charger that can use a "Quick Charge" feature to replenish the pack to about 80 percent in just 30 minutes.

Driving the rear wheels is a 47kW permanent magnet electric motor that puts out about 90 lb-ft of torque (120 NM) and is capable of revving to 10,000 RPM. But wait, there's more! A second electric motor powers the front wheels at speeds of around 25 miles per hour for city use. Top speed with both motors engaged is around 80 mph.

On the exterior front, this new EV concept may be vaguely inspired by the VW Space Up! concept from a few years back, but we don't think it's particularly egregious. Dual power-operated clamshell-ish doors allow access into an interior cabin that rather well done in clean-looking white materials. A fully electronic dash sits behind a yoke-style steering wheel. Have a look for yourself in our full gallery below.

Kia Forte 2010

Vehicle Summary:
The Forte is Kia's new entry in the compact-car segment, replacing the Spectra when it hits dealerships in summer 2009. Offered in LX, EX and SX trim levels, the Forte is available with a choice of four-cylinder engines and comes standard with numerous safety features, including an electronic stability system. Competitors include the Honda Civic, Ford Focus and Toyota Corolla.

Vehicle Overview:
The Forte is Kia's new entry in the compact-car segment, replacing the Spectra when it hits dealerships in summer 2009. Offered in LX, EX and SX trim levels, the Forte is available with a choice of four-cylinder engines and comes standard with numerous safety features, including an electronic stability system. Competitors include the Honda Civic, Ford Focus and Toyota Corolla.

Exterior:
The Forte sports crisp styling that gives the sedan an athletic shape. You don't have to look too closely to find resemblances to other small cars. The front end, for instance, looks similar to a Honda Civic coupe, and the Forte's taillights remind me of the Mitsubishi Lancer's.

The base LX sedan has standard 15-inch steel wheels, while the midlevel EX model gets 16-inch alloy rims. The performance-oriented SX trim, which features a sport suspension, has 17-inch alloy wheels and a rear spoiler. A sunroof is optional.

Interior:
The five-seat cabin features mostly good materials and panel fit. Some of the elements, like the available steering-wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls, have a high-end feel that you don't see in every compact car. The audio system's display has attractive red graphics.

The front bucket seats are finished in cloth, and leather upholstery is optional. The backseat is quite spacious for a compact car and can comfortably accommodate taller passengers. The 14.7-cubic-foot trunk is sizable for this class, and it can be expanded by folding the 60/40-split backseat. The release levers for that function are in the trunk.

The base LX trim goes without niceties like air conditioning, cruise control, and power windows and locks, but that should help keep its starting price low. The EX has all those features plus remote keyless entry, map lights and steering-wheel audio controls. The SX adds a telescoping steering wheel and cloth seats with red stitching.

Under the Hood:
LX and EX models are powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 156 horsepower. Choosing the SX trim brings a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that generates 173 hp. Both engines are offered with a manual transmission — a five-speed for the base engine and a six-speed for the SX trim — or an automatic.

Safety:
Standard features include all-disc antilock brakes, side-impact airbags for the front seats, side curtain airbags, an electronic stability system and active head restraints for the front seats.

GMC Terrain 2010

Vehicle Summary:
GMC's twin to the Chevrolet Equinox, the Terrain, is all-new for 2010. The five-seat crossover comes in front- or all-wheel drive with a four-cylinder or V-6. With front-wheel drive and the four-cylinder, GMC expects EPA highway gas mileage to end up around 30 mpg. Major competitors include the Ford Escape, Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V.

Vehicle Overview:
GMC's twin to the Chevrolet Equinox, the Terrain, is all-new for 2010. The five-seat crossover comes in front- or all-wheel drive with a four-cylinder or V-6. With front-wheel drive and the four-cylinder, GMC expects EPA highway gas mileage to end up around 30 mpg. Major competitors include the Ford Escape, Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V.

Trim levels include the base SLE and uplevel SLT. Characteristic of a crossover, the Terrain has a four-wheel-independent suspension and car-based frame — a design that emphasizes ride comfort and fuel efficiency over off-road capabilities and towing.

Exterior:
GM says it sought to provide a "confident and strong stance" with the Terrain's styling. To that end, the crossover has oversized fenders and liberal bumper cladding, both of which set the Terrain apart from its Equinox sibling. GM says that beyond the windshield, the two don't share any major body panels.

The fog lights sit within vertical housings, and the large grille wears plenty of chrome. The rear's stacked appearance recalls a number of models, from the Buick Rendezvous SUV to the Toyota Sienna minivan. A backup camera is standard, and a power liftgate is optional.

Seventeen-inch alloy wheels are standard with the four-cylinder engine; V-6 models have 18-inch alloys, with 19-inchers optional. At 185.3 inches long and 72.8 inches wide, the Terrain has a larger footprint than the Escape, RAV4 and CR-V. Its turning circle, at 40 feet with 17- or 18-inch wheels, trails that group by at least 2 feet. With 19-inch wheels, the Terrain's turning circle is an even wider 42.6 feet.

Interior:
The cabin bears far more resemblance to the Equinox than does the exterior, with an upward-tilted panel housing the air-conditioning and stereo controls. The dashboard features angular styling and two-tone plastics. Standard equipment includes keyless entry, power height adjustment for the driver's seat, and a six-speaker stereo with a USB port for MP3 players. An eight-way power driver's seat, heated leather upholstery, a moonroof and a navigation system are optional.

Like the Equinox, the Terrain's second-row seat adjusts fore and aft. There's a plastic floor panel behind the seat that can be folded down to create a gap-free cargo floor. With the second row down, maximum cargo volume totals 63.9 cubic feet — not quite as good as the Escape, and about 10 cubic feet short of the RAV4 and CR-V.

Under the Hood:
Both the four-cylinder and the V-6 employ direct-injection technology. The four-cylinder displaces 2.4 liters and makes 182 horsepower; the V-6 displaces 3.0 liters and makes 264 hp. An "Eco" mode, activated by a dashboard button, alters drivetrain calibrations in the four-cylinder to maximize fuel efficiency. GM says Eco mode helps the Terrain achieve its highway mileage figures.

When properly equipped, maximum towing capacity with the four-cylinder is 1,500 pounds. With the V-6, it rises to 3,500 pounds.

Safety:
Six airbags, including side-impact airbags for the front seats and side curtain airbags for both rows, are standard. So are four-wheel-disc antilock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system.

Bugatti Veyron Bleu Centenaire

The Bleu Centenaire is a special model to celebrate 100 years of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S, the company originally started by Ettore Bugatti in 1909 in Molsheim, France. This model carries the traditional two-tone look of the Veyron, but does so with a combination of 'Sprintblue' Matte and 'Sprintblue' Gloss, creating an entirely unique look. The roof trim, exterior mirrors and the front and side intake grilles have been recreated with polished, anodized aluminum. The Bleu Centenaire also receives exclusive aluminum wheels and red brake calipers.

This highly exclusive Bugatti Veyron Bleu Centenaire will run you roughly 1.7 million U.S. if you want to pick this up for your collection, but if we were betting men (which we are), we'd say that it'll likely land in some Arab Sheik's collection somewhere in the United Arab Emirates never to be seen again.

Bugatti Press Release:

Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. presents the Bugatti Veyron Bleu Centenaire at the 2009 Geneve Motor Show, a special commission honouring the 100th anniversary of the company, thus initiating a range of worldwide activities celebrating the creation of this mythic brand a hundred years ago. In addition Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport is shown for the first time to a wider public in Europe.

Hundred years of Bugatti

In 1909 Ettore Bugatti started his business in the Alsacian town of Molsheim, France. The name of the company: "Ettore Bugatti Automobiles i.Els.". And although the name has changed into "Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S.", the site and the philosophy of the brand have been preserved. In 2006 the first model under the "new management" was launched, precisely 50 years after the last car of the original company left the gates of the Molsheim factory. The Bugatti Veyron has only been on the market for three years, but has already reached the status of being an undisputed part of automotive history, with 250 cars ordered to date, and nearly 200 cars delivered. This means that there are only 50 Veyrons to be sold until the limit of 300 units will be reached.

The Bugatti Veyron Bleu Centenaire

Building on the marque's core values of « Art - Forme - Technique » , Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. has created the Bugatti Veyron Bleu Centenaire, a unique model to celebrate the hundred year old history of the company. This special model takes up the traditional Bugatti two-tone-specification, but portrays it in one rather than two colours: in the most known light shaded Bugatti blue. The Centenaire's unique combination of a « sprintblue matt » and « sprintblue gloss » hence offers a new impression of the two-tone-scheme known so far with parts of the engine also covered in this traditional Bugatti Blue.

The roof-trim-stripes and the exterior rearview mirrors are of polished, anodised aluminium. A special wheel design has been added - enhanced by a bright red brake-capillar. The grills at the front and at the side air intakes are in « mirror shine ».

The interior of the Centenaire is fitted in a special «snowbeige» leather with quilting on the seats. The central console is covered in the same leather. New LED lights, Park Distance Control and a rearview camera have become part of the standard equipment for all Bugatti Veyrons from this year onwards. The Bugatti Veyron Bleu Centenaire shares all performance characteristics of other Veyron models performance-, acceleration- and deceleration characteristics which have been highly praised ever since the Bugatti Veyron first appeared on the scene. The car will cost 1,35 Million Euro exclusive taxes and transportation.

Fair & square battle for Thai duo

Chalermpol

Though they are teammates, Chalermpol Polamai and Decha Kraisat will not cut each other any slack.

Chalermpol who stomps the overall standings with 120 points says so because in his opinion Decha is a much better rider than he is-talented, experienced and he possesses the skills, techniques and abilities to read and master tracks/circuits quickly. Decha stands in second place, only 2 points behind with 118 points.

“Decha is a dangerous rider and a serious threat to me and any other rider in the SuperSports 600cc class. He is both experienced and skilful. I will do my best to defend my stand in the overall standings against him,” said the Thai rider.

He further added, “To secure my position, I need to be on par or even better than Decha. This concern areas of boost stamina and riding skills. Not just that it is also important for me to communicate better with the team mechanics and provide them with as much input as possible regarding the machine’s performance on the track.”

Talk about his expectations for Round 4 in India scheduled to take place this weekend, the 28 years old rider is still uncertain about the outcome. He can only hope for the best.

“At the moment, I am 50/50 about the upcoming race because this is the first time I will be racing there. Though there is doubt, I am excited and optimistic about finishing the race this weekend on the podium,” said Chalermpol.

In comparison to the other tracks used to host the ARRC, Chalermpol describes the Madras Circuit to be very challenging because it is not about speed on this 3.717km circuit; it’s about technique and self- control over skills and the machine.

Meanwhile, in third place of the SuperSports 600cc stands Md Zamri Baba with 80 points followed by Ahmad Fuad Baharudin and Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman in 4th and 5th place with 77 and 73 points respectively. These three riders represent PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Malaysia.

Title battle far from over for Azlan

Azlan Shah

Even so Thai duo, Chalermpol Polamai and Decha Kraisat stomps the overall standings, Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman believes the SuperSports 600cc title-battle is far from over. Not just that, he is also certain he and his teammates are capable of conquering the top three spots by the end of this season.

At the moment, Azlan (PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Malaysia) stands in 5th place of the overall standings with 73 points, 47 points shy from leader of the overall standings, Chalermpol (PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Thailand) who has 120 points under his belt.

While Chalermpol reigns supreme, his teammate, Decha sits comfortably in second place with 118 points. Md Zamri Baba on the other hand stands in third spot followed by Ahmad Fuad Baharudin. Both riders possess 80 and 77 points respectively.

“This weekend I intend to close the point gap with the Thai riders who are well active and experienced in motorsports. It explains their consistency of finishing almost every round on the podium.

To go toe to toe against them without a proper plan will only prove to be devastating. It is important for us (Zamri, Fuad and Azlan) to develop a game-plan for Round 4 and stick to it if we want to take down Chalermpol and Decha at least by the end of this season,” said the 25 years old.

When asked about his expectations for the next round, Azlan expects results to be delivered because he has worked really hard for it. The only doubt that stays in his mind is will he be able to get used to the track before the actual race day.

“This is my first time racing on the Madras Circuit. I can’t quite fathom how the track is but based on the layout, it is very technical. My best bet is to get the feel of the track during the pre-elements of the race, namely the free practice, timed practice and also qualifying. The condition of the circuit and the weather factor plays an important role as well,” he said.

Norizman to replace Elly

Suzuki Harian Metro SCK

The second ever Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) visit to Madras Circuit, India takes place this weekend. The highly anticipated Round 4 of the PETRONAS ARRC will see 2005 Expert Champion, Norizman Ismail team-up with Mohd Affendi Rosli in the Underbone 115cc category.

From Round 4 onwards, Suzuki Harian Metro SCK’s Norizman will replace Elly Idzliakmal Ilias. Team Manager, Soong Chee Kieong said the team decided to swap Elly with Norizman because they need Norizman’s experience to help the team to secure the Underbone 115cc overall title.

“This season, our team stands a very good chance for the title chase as Affendi is currently third in the standings with 54 points. He is only 8-point adrift of leader Fitriansyah Kete of U Mild U Bikers Indonesia Racing. Therefore, we made the vital decision to change our team strategy to beef up the squad with Norizman in it,” he said.

At the moment, Fitriansyah tops the standings with 62 points, followed by compatriot, Hadiwijaya (Kawasaki F IRC NHK REXTOR M-TECH) with 61 points. Meanwhile, fourth and fifth in the standings are Malaysian riders from PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Raceline, Mohd Iskandar Raduan and Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah who has 52 and 51 points respectively.

Soong went on to say that both Elly and Norizman have their own strengths and weaknesses but this time around, it is essential to have an experience rider. “I am not saying Norizman is better than Elly or vice versa but based on Norizman’s eight years racing exposure, he has the upper hand as compare to Elly who only started racing in 2005. Besides that, he has more technical knowledge and his input will make easier for us to find the right set-up within a short period of time.”

As for Norizman, he is excited to be given the chance to race at the international level again. “Since the Underbone 115cc category changed from 2-stroke to 4-stroke in 2006, I only raced in the Malaysia rounds only as Affendi is a better 4-stroke rider than me. However, I am thankful that my team manager put his trust in me to contribute results for the team,” said the 24-year old rider.

Zamani content so far

Zamani #50

Although Ahmad Zamani Baharudin has not won any podiums or get a hold of any chequered flags, he is satisfied with his flow for this season because he believes he could have done a lot worse.

“So far I am content with my performance in this season. Truth be told, it may seem like I’m in a comfort zone but really, I’m not,” said the Malaysian rider.

The AFY Racing Malaysia rider laid out his reasons, with the first being the condition of the machine he and teammate, Lee Ching Hooi are currently using-the Kawasaki XZ-6R which he describes to be in tip-top condition but not enough to compete with the top riders of the PETRONAS Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC).

“The bike Lee and I are using now is very reliable. Normally during races we face some set-up issues but that’s common racing in the SuperSports 600cc because every circuit calls for a different set-up.

The issue right now is I am capable of keeping up with the top riders of the Championship because the bike provides me with enough power and speed to do so. But to actually surpass them, that’s a whole different story.

Furthermore, for each race I have been pushing the bike to its maximum capacity and if this continues, it might not last the season. Therefore, I will have to play it safe and remain consistent for the upcoming races before the replacement bike comes, hopefully by next year,” said the 33 years old.

Zamani proved this by pointing out that he has been consistently picking up points for the first three rounds of the ARRC with Round 1 held in Sepang, Round 2 in Japan and the recent Round 3 in Indonesia. Only in Race 2 of Round 3 he failed to grab any points and that was because he was not in fine form, due to a bad knee injury sustained racing back home in Malaysia.

Secondly, Zamani hinted that the team is in the process of bringing in a new rider, someone younger and much agile. At the moment, Zamani and Lee are the ones responsible of providing training and exposure for this soon-to-be rider.

Currently, Zamani stands in 7th place of the SuperSports600cc overall standings with 41 points under his belt; 16 points shy from Harlan Fadhillah from PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Indonesia who stomps 6th spot.

Topping the charts is the Thai duo, Chalermpol Polamai and Decha Kraisat. These PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Thailand riders have 120 and 118 points under their belts.

In third place stands Malaysian rider, Md Zamri Baba from PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Malaysia. The 26 years old rider has succeeded to collect 80 points so far.

Meanwhile, Zamri’s teammate, Ahmad Fuad Baharudin and Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman stands in 4th and 5th place of the overall standings with 77 and 73 points.

Sudarmono to race in India despite slow recovery

Sudarmono

In Round 3 of the PETRONAS Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC), held at the Sentul International Circuit, Sudarmono was nowhere to be seen. Apparently the Indonesian rider was involved in a crash during the Supersport National Championship on the 30th May 2009.

It happened during the end of the Qualification Time Practice when a title-rival switched race lines right in front of Sudarmono. Out of reflex, Sudarmono jammed his brakes in the attempt of switching directions but unfortunately, luck was not on his side that day.

In doing so, the bike flipped about 3 metres high and crashed down hard. Among the damages was a broken rear wheel, a bent swing arm, front triple clamp and front forks. Even the gas tank was smashed out of shape. Luckily Sudarmono only sustained a broken bone in the left hand, right below the wrist and some bruises on the leg.

Surgery has done a lot in terms of repairing the broken bone. But there seem to be some problems with his nerves in the left hand and at the moment, Sudarmono is attending electrical therapy to fix this.

And though the recovery process is slow, the Indonesian rider is still fired up for the upcoming round of the ARRC set to take place in India this 4-6 September.

He has been attending practices to gain back his touch with the swollen hand, doing at least 7 laps a day so that he is capable enough to collect points- if he doesn’t climb up the podium or grab the chequered flag.

“The recovery is slow but the condition of my arm is improving. Besides that, I have been doing a lot of training for Round 4 with this swollen arm because I hope to collect points there if not climb up the podium,” he said.

Sudarmono now stands in 8th spot of the SuperSports 600cc overall standings with 38 points while teammate, Harlan Fadhillah stands in 6th place with 57 points. Topping the charts would be PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Thailand riders, Chalermpol Polamai and Decha Kraisat with 120 and 118 points respectively.

In third spot comes Malaysian rider Md Zamri Baba followed by Ahmad Fuad Baharudin and Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman with 80, 77, and 73 points. All three riders represent PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Malaysia.

Kaizo R34 GT-R Pictures in Import Tuner

R34-IT- Nov-2009

While checking out my friend Carters Jung's book - Import Tuner , in the letters section was a letter and a few pictures of the Fast and Furious Kaizo R34 on a tow truck.  They mentioned that they first thought it was the “stolen” GTS from North Hollywood from a while back.  This is not that stolen car.

This is one of the cars that was seized at Kaizo.  They mention in the article that the car was at Manheim Auto Auction in Oceanside.  Since then a poster on Supraforums mentioned that they had seen the Kaizo cars being moved on a transporter. I wonder where they were being moved to ?

Still no charges, or other information in the Kaizo case yet.

Cash for Clunkers - Buick GNX

I don't believe this car is on this list. Cars that were actually turned in on the "Cash for Clunkers." A Buick GNX. Built by ASC/Mclaren. One of 547 cars. 3.8 liter Buick Turbo. A tear in my eye as I write this. That cars worth $20k if its in a basket and all the parts are in the trunk.... Check out the list. I had a 1986 Buick Grand National for several years. I still really enjoy the 86-86 Buick Turbo Regals. Some cars deserved to die, many of them on the list were worth a lot more than $4500 or $3500 no matter the condition of them.

Pour a 40 out for the GNX that died...

California adopts new limits for in consumer products

Country's most stringent controls will reduce ozone and prevent
emissions of airborne toxins

DIAMOND BAR, CALIF. : Today the Air Resources Board adopted a
regulation for air fresheners, paint thinners and multi-purpose
solvents that will eliminate more than 14 tons-per-day of
volatile organic compounds when fully implemented in 2014, and
prohibits the use of several toxic air contaminants.

According to California's clean air laws, chemically created
products used by homeowners and institutions are consumer
products and subject to air pollution regulatory control. These
emit nearly 255 tons-per-day of VOCs statewide. The
sub-categories of products addressed by today's action emit 22
tons-per-day of the smog forming compounds.

"Consumer products are not widely recognized as a source of air
pollution," said ARB Executive Officer James Goldstene. "But the
millions of times a day these are sprayed, poured and painted
generate a large cloud of fumes that can create ozone and
contribute to California's smog problem."

The new regulation, which will result in one of the state's
largest reductions of VOCs from consumer products, also sets a
cap on the use of high global warming ingredients, another U.S.
first.

The cap on global warming ingredients was adopted to create a
backstop that would avoid the need to review the regulation if
such compounds were to be considered for future formulas.

ARB officials expect the average increase cost to consumers to
be about $1.50 per gallon of paint thinner.

VOCs are a target of air quality regulations because they easily
convert to ozone in the heat of California's climate. Ozone can
worsen asthma, cause serious lung inflammation, decrease lung
function and lead to emergency room visits for asthma,
hospitalization for respiratory conditions and increased school
absences.

The California Clean Air Act adopted in 1988 required ARB to
reduce VOC emissions from consumer products as a means to reach
state and federal ambient air quality standards. Since that date
ARB regulations have curbed these emissions by 44 percent, nearly
200 tons-per-day, and curbed toxic air contaminants by 13
tons-per-day.

The Air Resources Board is a department of the California
Environmental Protection Agency. ARB's mission is to promote and
protect public health, welfare, and ecological resources through
effective reduction of air pollutants while recognizing and
considering effects on the economy. The ARB oversees all air
pollution control efforts in California to attain and maintain
health based air quality standards.
