Nissan GT-R Turbos R32 , R33, R34, R35

The following is some information on the stock and aftermarket turbos available for the Nissan Skyline GT-R , and Nissan GT-R. R32, R33, R34, R35 as they are often referred, being the chassis codes.

R32, R33, R34

Above about 1.1 bar the stock RB26 turbos have a tendency to break the exhaust wheel off. People have gone low 12's, high 11's on the stock turbos, but not for long. Stock peak boost R32 is about 0.8 , R33 0.9, R34 1.0.

The exhaust manifold on the left side of the picture is a stock R32,R33, R34 piece. On the right is a modified N1 exhaust manifold from a Nismo built Super Taikyu car. You can see bracing between the manifold flanges, and the larger hole for the turbo “foot”.

Quickest 1/4 Mile Times on Stock Turbos : Worldwide

The quickest known times on stock turbos on Nissan Skyline GT-R’s. This covers the US, Australia, and Europe. The source is the GTR.co.UK forums.

I don’t recommend try this hard on stock turbos. Eventually the ceramic exhaust wheel breaks off, and you have a normally aspirated Nissan Skyline GT-R.

Testing Modified Twin Turbo Pipe

We posted this a little while back on the UK GT-R Forum.

In with keeping with the mostly stock look for Jeffs R32, its going with a twin GT-RS setup, and the stock twin turbo outlet pipe. We have seen some modified pipes in the past, and decided to make one up for Jeffs car. By keeping the front turbo from meeting the rear turbo at such a 90 degree angle, it should help with the balance between the two turbos, and might even help out with power.

Jeffs car is still going together, so we decided to test the modified pipe on the orange R33 . The orange car is Stock engine, stock turbos, aftermarket downpipe, exhaust, intake, Apex intercooler, Power FC.

The starter on the orange car was starting to click, but it would start about every other time. While dynoing another car, Josh put some more pump gas in it, and pulled the front propshaft so we could run it on the dyno.

The last time on the dyno boost was about 14.7 psi and the car did a max of 346 whp. Click though for the test results.

This time boost was up to a peak of about 19 psi and the car with the modified outlet pipe did 378.3 hp , 380 hp, and 378.8 hp. Josh changed the outlet pipe back to a stock pipe, went to start the car, and the starter just clicked. Time to change the starter. 20 minutes later, with another starter in it, do a couple pulls. 361 hp first pull , then 371 hp , then back to 361 hp. Boost was around the same 19 psi, but the car was a lot less consistant.

Ceramic Exhaust Wheel vs Metal Exhaust Wheel Weight

Stock GT-R Ceramic Exhaust Wheel

I found these pictures I took a while ago of the weight of a stock nearly undamaged GT-R exhaust wheel that broke off and a HKS 2530 exhaust wheel with some damage.

The ceramic exhaust wheel weighs in at 54 grams. The metal exhaust wheel weighs in at 130 grams. The 2530 wheel is larger, but its also damaged. Lighter is better, but the problem is that the attachment point of the ceramic exhaust wheel is just too weak. If you get some detonation you end up snapping the exhaust wheel off. Unfortunately its fairly common in the GT-R wheel.

Turbocharger Glass Art

For all my friends out there, that have a medical condition, or want some nice turbocharger glass art. I found this over on the TigerLife Blog.

“I started out making this for fun, then I posted it on dsmtuners, Honda tech and the srt forums. I got alot of positive feedback and sold about 20 of them. I can make them as just paper weights or “function art” if you get my drift.

I am selling them for $60 shipped. Sent money via paypal to imeyer85@yahoo.com. Please include if you want the “functional art” version or the normal (paper weight one), your forum name, and what forum you are from.
Thanks
Ian

Some nice glass art. I know some of the turbo fans out there, have that prescription for legal weed. Here in California its turning into a fairly big industry.
